…smh..SHUT UP!..i can’t hear the REAL music..

For days, weeks and months you build up the anticipation for your new project to come and every time you leave the city disappointed.  Just shut up.  Listening parties are being scheduled for things that sound incomplete.  Titles are created for CD’s that have nothing to do with ANY song on the damn CD.  Money is being spent on great beats for the rapping to be mediocre.  Now this would be a GREAT time for me to call some folks out but why??  if i carefully word this shit you’ll know im talking about you.

This last week ive heard some of the WORST music ever in years.  And its not the lack of skill its the lack of substance.  Ive downloaded song after song and the shit sounds like one continuous track.  No variation in the voice and damn near no variation in the subject.  Every time i hit “play” im scared to hear whats going to come out of my speakers. You get me HYPE about listening to it with all the gat damn twitter and facebook posts you make about it, but when i do, i wanna blow my brains out.  I listened to one artist the other day and i couldve SWORN they were saying a word that was NOT the title.  Like do you all play this shit back before you pop it on a cd?  ..what the fuck are you really talking about?  fucking NOTHING!!

Don’t get me started on this MIX CD EPIDEMIC.  You go and find a mediocre ass dj to throw on there and overused beats and now you’ve got this gawd awful mix of TRASH. A lot of you are hiding behind these “mix cd’s” because you lack the intelligence to create your own damn beat, hook and concept.  Then when you remix some shit we’ve heard, you fail at it!!  Everything doesn’t fucking need a remix!!  Be original.  Unless you are getting the ORIGINAL damn artist on the track, then STOP!!

**INSERT PSA HERE**  there is usually only ONE really good artist in a clique/group.. — remember this when posting new “crew” names..

The mainstream rap game has saturated the airwaves with bullshit, HENCE that dumbass MAGIC song…the LEAST you can do is have substance.  I mean, why not be the rapper that’s talking about something?  You screaming trap or die and don’t have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of two dances and a coat later. We shit on the conscience artist because they aren’t tuff or raw enough in the streets. When usually, they are the ones that are making it out of the city. Im not saying you should hide who you are, but don’t lie and create something you are not.  You talking about “doing numbers” and “moving weight” from here to there but you are catching rides to the studios.  You don’t make any fucking sense and should maybe shut the fuck up. You aren’t even building a larger fan base.  You have the same 32 supporters attend every fucking thing you do, retweet every dumbass song you put out and keep buying your wack ass cd’s.  This shit has given a lot of you the big head.  Take your music elsewhere and see what the response is.  Would you survive?  I doubt it.  Its a fucking joke and the fact you’re happy with being known just in your city is exactly why the music hasn’t reached other areas.  Now of course, folks will respond with, “im booking shows in other cities”.  Yes, I bet you are.  They didn’t call you tho.  You had to sell yourself to them or you saw some open mic shit on the internet and calling it a “booking”.  The only people you are kidding is yourself.o and ur wack ass crew.

I’ve shouted out the music I like, ive given positive views on shit and yet my advice is not taken so why fucking ask?  I’ve kept from telling you exactly how i feel about your music by pointing out the GOOD i like.  As of now, your beats are about the ONLY thing worth speaking on.  Stop being so quick to get a CD out.  You have no competition.  You are your own worst enemy because you continue to rush a project.  There is an artist that i really like, he has two songs, both have “industry” beats and killer production.  He’s said that if he can’t afford professional production and beats he’ll keep doing a song at a time as money permits.  I respect that artist MORE for his two greatly produced songs with killer lyrics than those of you with 100 songs about NOTHING, produced awful and with a store bought beat.

Now im sure all of this will be looked at as if i am being negative and thats NOT the case.  I’m telling you shit you need to hear.  Try giving your cd away with an email address for them to tell you EXACTLY what they think about your music.  I’m sure the reviews would be about the same as mine.  It’s just that when i say it, it stings a little more.

So Syd V has created a list of steps you should take for success..you can either accept the shit as advice and succeed or ignore and fail…the choice is yours..

  1. invest in a good writer. some of you have the beats and no quality lyrics to go with it.  just cause you think it sounds good, that doesn’t mean it does.
  2. figure out what your target audience is.  stop hopping genres. pick one your good at and stick with it.  you’d be surprised that a LOT of you are NOT trap rappers regardless of the story youve told.
  3. you may have to do a couple of open mics in order to be noticed but STOP doing the same ones over and over.  it just makes you comfortable and people become quickly annoyed with you.
  4. i understand that you spent a LOT on producing your CD, but giving it away isn’t always a bad thing.  It sometimes brings you new fans.  If Rhianna’s Cd is $9.99 at Target, why is yours selling for $15? Let’s bring the prices down.
  5. Minimize the people in your entourage.  They are unwanted baggage and will almost always make you look bad in some sort of way.
  6. Tweeting & Facebooking are NOT the only forms of marketing.  How would you get your music out if these social networks didn’t exist?
  7. Manage yourself!  You’re not that busy to where you need someone to handle things for you.  If you can’t make time for your career then you can’t expect someone else to do the same. if you DO get a manager, NEVER pick a friend.  They may seem like they have your best interests but they really don’t.
  8. Learn to rap WITHOUT your music! <— a lot of you CANT do this.
  9. Get a JOB!  Being an artist is expensive.  You can’t expect to get everything for free and you can’t dumb your project down due to lack of money. Invest in YOURSELF! your hood cred won’t be lost by getting a 9 to 5.
  10. Get out in the community and DO MORE!!  There is nothing better than seeing an artist at these community events participating.  It’s a good look for you on your portfolio and it gets you new fans!!
  11. SHOW UP ON TIME TO ANYTHING YOU ARE REQUIRED TO BE AT!! You are not a superstar and even if you WERE, being late is just rude.  Especially when someone is paying for your time or allowing you to be a part of something to get you added exposure.

Ok..ok..let me stop..i don’t wanna become annoying ..ive step’d down from the podium and you can continue on with your life..but the moral of this story, SHUT THE FUCK UP until you are able to produce something WORTH talking about cause as of RIGHT NOW..silence is golden and your music needs improvement

until next time REMEMBER….you can ALWAYS HIT ME IN MY MOUF WHEN YOU SEE ME…
